Clinical Assistant Program


COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Physician-led Clinical Assistant Prep (CAP) program (150-hour program) will teach foundational knowledge and basic science in medical terminology, basic pharmacology and nutrition, and anatomy and physiology, clinical patient care in electrocardiography, phlebotomy, parenteral administration, point of care testing, assessment & management skills of the patient, and administrative tasks as it applies to a clinical medical assistant. The achievement of these skills will allow students to obtain a successful volunteer-based internship in the clinical setting with direct patient care experience where they will intern as a clinical medical assistant CLICK HERE to learn more about clinical internships. All students will be eligible to sit for the national certification exam in Clinical Medical Assisting (CCMA) upon successful completion of the program and gain employment as a CCMA. Our CCMA certification exam pass rate is 96%. According to the 2024 Industry Outlook 87% of employers require certification for medical assistants and the salary range for a certified medical assistant is $14.30 – 18.40 an hour.

The part-time course sections are a offered as a mixed course delivery: asynchronous, web-assisted course with in-person lab sessions.

The full-time course sections are offered as an in-person, web-assisted course.

Students will be performing the required clinical skills on their classmates, including but not limited to venipuncture skills.

**You must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent to enroll in the program.

*Price increase effective January 1, 2025 – $2000.00

Any internship outside of the Tallahassee area must be pre-approved through the Director prior to registering. 

*Course price does not include the national certification exam, HSC logo scrubs (must be black or red), or internship screening fees.

This program is offered every semester.

  • Full-time section: 5 days, Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. each day; offered between school semesters (in-person delivery)
  • Weekend section: 5 days, Saturday & Sunday’s, 8am-5pm (in-person delivery); no internship
  • Part-time lab section: Monday evenings for 10-weeks, 5:30pm – 9:30 pm (mixed delivery, asynchronous & in-person)
  • Part-time lab section: Tuesday evenings for 10-weeks, 5:30pm – 9:30 pm (mixed delivery, asynchronous & in-person)
  • Part-time lab section: Thursday evenings for 10-weeks, 5:30pm – 9:30 pm (mixed delivery, asynchronous & in-person)

This is a mixed course with asynchronous and a required face-to-face presence. Asynchronous allows students to complete coursework at their own schedule within the parameters of the instructor’s course guide. Lab sessions will be held in-person, once a week as listed below:
