Course Overview

The 8-week Online Clinical Assistant Course is a 50-hour, live virtual program designed to build a strong foundation in clinical medical assisting. This fully remote pathway is ideal for students who cannot attend on-site labs or internships but still want rigorous CCMA exam preparation and clinical-care knowledge.

Live classes are held weekly in the evenings through our learning management platform. There are no in-person requirements for this course. You’ll attend via webcam and complete skills using a mailed skills kit with step-by-step video demonstrations and return-demonstration assignments.

Important: This online format does not include a clinical internship. If you want an internship and direct patient-care hours, see our in-person Clinical Assistant Program (CAP) .

What You’ll Learn

The curriculum includes:

  • Medical terminology
  • Basic pharmacology and nutrition
  • Anatomy & physiology relevant to ambulatory care
  • Clinical patient care: electrocardiography, phlebotomy, parenteral administration, point-of-care testing, and patient assessment & management
  • Administrative tasks (scheduling, charting, office workflows) for a Clinical Medical Assistant
  • Professionalism & exam-style critical thinking to prepare for the CCMA national certification exam

Live Online + Skills Kit

Students receive a skills supply kit by mail to practice and demonstrate competency in key clinical skills. Lab skills are taught through:

  • Instructor-led live video demonstrations
  • Guided critical thinking and scenario-based videos
  • Return-demonstrations submitted as live or recorded video for instructor feedback

  • Ability to record and upload skill demonstration videos (phone or camera is fine)

Certification & Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the online course, students are eligible to sit for the CCMA national certification exam (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant).

Online Clinical Assistant students take the CCMA exam at a PSI testing center near them or through Live Remote Proctoring (LRP). The exam must be taken within 60 days of course completion.

Our CCMA exam pass rate is approximately 94%, reflecting the rigor of the curriculum and the level of support provided by our faculty.
