Online Clinical Assistant Course

The 8-week online Clinical Assistant course (50-hour program) will teach foundational knowledge and basic science in medical terminology, basic pharmacology and nutrition, anatomy & physiology, clinical patient care in electrocardiography, phlebotomy, parenteral administration, point of care testing, assessment & management skills of the patient, and administrative tasks as it applies to a Clinical Medical Assistant. This course does not include a clinical internship.

Classes will be held live and remotely through a learning management platform, weekly in the evenings. Students must have access to a computer, internet, webcam, and a recording device (i.e. cell phone, camera).

Students will receive by mail, a skill supply kit to demonstrate proficiency in clinical skills. Lab skills will be performed through video demonstrations and critical thinking videos. Students will provide live or video recordings of return demonstrations of lab skills.

All online students will be eligible to sit for the national certification exam in Clinical Medical Assisting (CCMA) upon successful completion of the course. Students who are enrolled in the online Clinical Assistant program will take the national CCMA certification exam at a PSI location near them or through Live Remote Proctoring (LRP). The CCMA exam must be taken within 60 days of successful course completion. The CCMA exam pass rate is 93%.

The online course is typically offered in January, March, May, July, September, & November of each year.

The next online course will be in July and registration will open in May.
