Course Description
The in-person Clinical Assistant Program (CAP) is a 150-hour training in Tallahassee, Florida covering the basic sciences (medical terminology, basic pharmacology & nutrition, anatomy & physiology) and hands-on clinical patient care (electrocardiography, phlebotomy, parenteral administration, point-of-care testing, patient assessment & management) plus administrative skills pertinent to a clinical medical assistant.
Students complete a volunteer-based internship with direct patient care experience, interning in the role of a clinical medical assistant. Learn more about internships here: Clinical Internships.
Upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the CCMA national certification exam and to seek employment as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant. Our CCMA pass rate is 96%. According to the 2024 Industry Outlook, 87% of employers require certification; typical starting wages range from $14.30–$18.40/hour.

Clinical Internship: Real Patient Care Experience
Students in the in-person Clinical Assistant Program may qualify for a volunteer-based clinical internship after completing the classroom and lab portions of CAP. Internships give you supervised, hands-on experience in local clinics and practices so you can build documented direct patient care hours.
- Sites: primary care, urgent care, and specialty clinics (based on availability)
- Schedule: usually 8+ hours per week over 10–12 weeks
- Hours: documented clinical hours that support job and graduate-school applications
- Eligibility: successful CAP completion, good academic/attendance standing, and internship clearance requirements
Internships outside the Tallahassee area must be approved by the Clinical Director before you register for the program.

Online Clinical Assistant Course
Prefer training entirely online? Our Online Clinical Assistant Course is an 8-week, 50-hour program delivered weekly in the evenings via live remote class sessions. You’ll receive a skill kit by mail, complete video demonstrations of lab skills, and submit return-demonstrations of your work. This format provides maximum flexibility and is ideal if you cannot attend on-site labs or internships.
