Registration is only Step 1. After you register, you must:

  1. Create/verify your NHA account
  2. Submit your NHA application to HSC for approval
  3. Allow 1–2 business days for review/approval
  4. After approval, schedule your exam date (availability is not guaranteed)

Description

Earning your Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) credential demonstrates your commitment to professional excellence, patient safety, and workforce readiness. The CCMA certification is NCCA-accredited and administered through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)—a credential widely recognized and valued by healthcare employers nationwide.

Passing a nationally accredited certification exam signals to employers that you meet standardized competency benchmarks and are prepared to perform at a professional level. According to the 2024 Industry Outlook, 81% of employers require certification for medical assistants. Certified medical assistants also tend to earn higher wages, with reported pay ranging from $16.10 to $27.15 per hour, and a national mean hourly wage of $19.49 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, SOC 31-9092).

Eligibility Requirements

To register for the CCMA exam through HSC, you must:

  • Be a current HSC student

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Be within 60 days of successful program completion

Students who do not meet eligibility requirements will not be approved for testing.

Critical Registration Timeline (Read Carefully)

Registering for the CCMA exam is only the first step. After purchase, students must:

  1. Create or verify their NHA account

  2. Submit their NHA application to HSC for approval

  3. Allow 1–2 business days for application review and approval

  4. After approval, schedule their exam date based on NHA availability

⚠️ Registering 1–2 days before your deadline almost always results in missed deadlines.
Exam dates are subject to availability and are not guaranteed, especially on short notice.

Testing Day Requirements

  • Current government-issued photo ID or passport is required

    • No photocopies, digital IDs, or photos accepted

  • Personal laptop is required for testing

    • Scroll to the bottom of this page for detailed laptop specifications

  • For online exams, results are available immediately after completion

Certification Renewal

Your CCMA certification must be renewed every two years. To remain current, you must:

  • Complete 10 continuing education credits

  • Pay the required NHA recertification fee

Testing Accommodations

Students requesting special testing accommodations must complete the NHA Request for Accommodations Form.
NHA recommends allowing up to 30 days for review. Requests are processed in the order received and cannot be expedited.

Important Policies

  • All fees are non-refundable

  • Registrations cannot be rescheduled

  • Registration typically closes approximately 10 days prior to the test date
